30 Days

Do you ever have the feeling that you didn’t really accomplish anything for a month, like every day looked the same and you didn’t even do the things you wanted to at least try?

I guess every one of us had and probably is going to have several more moments in our life where we think we are stuck. It’s that depressing feeling in your chest that makes you feel small and as though you haven’t been moving forward in a long time, which might not even be true, but the feeling is still there. Because of that and some other reasons for example that I didn’t take my own advice regarding blogging to heart I want to share with you a method that might help you get over it.

Today I watched a video about something you might have come across already, especially if you are an artist, no matter if you write draw, animate or who knows what. The thing I am talking about is a 30 Day Challenge. Sounds like fun, right? I mean there is the word challenge in it and that’s already quite motivating. I have known about this for years and have seen artists draw something inspired by a certain word for 30 days. Doing that helps them improve and to move outside their comfort zone. It’s a really beneficial thing to do especially if you feel like you are stuck also known as an “art block”.

It doesn’t necessarily have to do with art though! I have to admit that I didn’t think about those 30 Day Challenges this way until I watched the video I am going to link below. The thing about “art blocks” is, that they occur throughout our life in many different forms. They can make you question your accomplishments, your hobbies, your job and even your life choices. What you need to know now is that reflection on certain aspects of your life or even your life as a whole is nothing bad IF you are able to move on from your brooding. So, what to do now? The answer is easy, challenge yourself! You like art but don’t know what to draw? Make a list of random words and draw something, anything, to one of them, every day for 30 days. You want to exercise more? How about you start by walking for half an hour or an hour every day? You want to become a better photographer? Take a camera, it doesn’t matter which one, and take at least ten pictures a day. You can be very creative if it comes to those challenges. You can even do them with friends or ask them to help you make a list of things you should do. They should be fun!

You may ask yourself now “But what are the benefits of doing this?”. First of all, it’s a challenge, which means if nothing else it is supposed to make you feel good if you pull through with it. The second thing is that if you really want to make a change, 30 days are a great time span to do so, because it helps you to make a habit out of things you really want to do. Basically it forces you to get active, to do stuff. Something very important to remember though is to set you goals so that they are achievable. You shouldn’t get discouraged just by thinking about what you are planning to do. One thing that might help as well is to tell a friend or family member about it. It can make quite the difference to know that not only you are counting on yourself but others are too. Or you could just publish your achievements on your blog.  All in all just stay creative, motivated and have lots of fun! This is about you and making yourself feel better, keep on moving forward!
