So, this is my blog

Good morning!

It’s a beautiful day outside, it’s the third week of my second semester, perfect time to review my own blog and give advice do me and everyone out there who wants their blog to look less abandoned. The first most important thing you should probably do is blog regularly, unlike me who let my blog dust over the last few weeks. If you haven’t written and published anything lately just sit down for a few minutes, jot down some notes or write whatever comes to your mind. It’s not too important what you write about as the first post after a long absence, it is mostly there to get your blog going again. You could actually just tell everyone about what you did during that time. Why where you absent, did anything interesting happen?

Well done! Now you have got your first entry after weeks and weeks of not showing yourself. Did some additional ideas pop into your head during your writing process? If so you should absolutely write them down before you forget them again. It doesn’t matter if you are ever going to write a post regarding that topic, just write them down. The great thing about getting yourself to write something after a long pause is that you are most certainly going to end up with more ideas than you started with. You know why, because you are actually thinking about what to write. You don’t just sit there, telling yourself that you don’t know what to blog about anyway and just get back to checking your Facebook.

So now that you published your “first” post and have a nice collection of ideas you could write about, there are several questions you should ask yourself before you get to work again. First of all, does your blog have a special theme? In that case it would probably be unwise to pursue “Why are spider webs so sticky” if your blog is about cooking. The other way around it would be quite weird if, between all the random wild life facts you have previously written about, a recipe would pop up. If yours is just a random blog just ask yourself, “What would interest my readers?” or, “Is this really so important to me that I want to blog about it?”. Just cross out all the ideas that do not fit or are too boring and trivial. DON’T write about your pet being as uninteresting as usual. Your pet isn’t that important. Especially not if it is a goldfish, please don’t blog about your goldfish.

Great, what now? Do you have a schedule or do you publish randomly? It might be easier for you if you plan when you want your next entry to be ready for your audience. Either way, you might want to try to publish at least something every week or so. It makes your readers come back. Also, keep in mind that your posts should have a certain quality. They should not only be readable but also interesting, there is no sense in posting as often as possible if the quality isn’t right. This means you might have to do some research before you do anything and don’t forget the sources! Not only should people know where your knowledge comes from but also be able to get it themselves. It would be frustrating for a reader who thought your entry was interesting and they want to read up on the topic you talked about but there are no sources. Where do they start? Besides that it’s always important to show the truthfulness of your work, unless it is purely about your own opinion like for example this post you are reading right now.

I think I have told you and me enough about what blogging should be about and how you can make your entries more interesting. This is just my opinion and something to remind me of some things. If you found this useful or have something to add, don’t be afraid to leave a comment! I would love to read about your point of view and maybe you can give me some advice as well.

Have a great day!
